Our Middle School Event was today, April 10th, 2019 and 6ème, 5ème and 4ème students from the American Section were there to learn and debate about Refugee Rights. Many interesting points were brought up, and we hope they are now aware of the refugee situation.
Here are some of the photos the team took during both our events this year.
Keynote speaker Jazmin O’Hara, co-founder of the humanitarian organization The Worldwide Tribe, was present to explain to the children her work and answer questions.
In January, we teamed up with Community Service to make blankets for the homeless. Our aim with this collaboration was to make warm blankets which we eventually handed out last Sunday.
Here are some pictures of our initial meeting:
The final products were these super warm knotted blankets! Huge thanks to Community Service for their help! We handed them out around Saint-Germain to the homeless on Sunday, hopefully keeping them warm. This was a wonderful project, and we encourage you to look out for others that aren’t as fortunate to have a warm bed to go to every night.
Along with our first meeting since Toussaint vacation, now on Mondays, we had a mock debate. Our question was simple but brought some interesting arguments to the table, should a country that is struggling to provide for it’s citizens accept refugees? We highly recommend discussing this topic, or even doing some research. If you are feeling inspired, you may even research and find arguments to back up the side you are against: for example, if you believe that the country should not accept the refugees, try and find evidence of why it should, in order to understand the dilemma.
The arguments we brought up were fairly disputed, counter-arguments seemingly endless. Here are two articles that we deemed interesting:
Welcome back everyone! We hope you’ve had a great summer vacation and that the transition from sunny beaches and smoothies has been a positive one. This year, we have decided to merged the co-existing subteams of the Human Rights Team to form the Marketing/Blog Team. We will be maintaining the blog but also our physical presence as well, such as flyers, sales/fundraisers, and events about this year’s topic: the refugee situation. We can’t wait to show you what we have planned for this year, so please stay tuned for more details!
